Osamu Ukimura, M.D. Ph.D.

On August 31, 2016, Dr. Ukimura left USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital and relocated with his family to Kyoto, Japan to take up a new position there.

Dr. Ukimura spoke at the Prostate Forum on July 25, 2013. A video of Dr. Ukimura's lecture will be posted on our web site as soon as available.

Dr. Ukimura pioneered the world's first application of augmented reality, image-fusion of 3-dimensional
ultrasound with CT or MRI and 4-dimensional navigation technologies in urology. He is also internationally
recognized for his experience in the management of lower urinary tract dysfunction and laparoscopic surgery. At USC, Dr Ukimura has built the country's first dedicated Center for Image-Guided Surgery & Focal Therapy. His team's cutting-edge research is developing innovative new,high-precision, focal therapies for prostate cancer. These techniques aim to ablate only the dominant cancerous area, while maintaining the rest of the prostate intact. This novel "focal therapy" approach will likely provide select patients with organ-confined low-risk prostate cancer unparelled continence and potency outcomes, while treating the cancer.

The subject of Dr. Ukimura's lecture on July 25, 2013 at 7 pm was: "The Contemporary Role of Prostate Biopsy"
